Imaginative but in danger of being a victim of its own success. Gorgeous location but on a busy day such as today the car park can't cope and the footpaths were slushy. Also the main cafe was struggling to keep up. Why make such complex coffees when a Cona type coffee suits most people and just needs poring.
The display area is very well done and informative for adults and children alike.
So recommended but pick your day.

Stayed for four nights at this hostel and had a great stay. The staff were polite, friendly, helpful and nothing was too much for them.

The scenery was incredible as this place is in the middle of nowhere and has a good pub at the back which serves good food. The place is very clean and tidy and does also serve food.

Vindolanda is about a 40min walk and amazing, whereas Hadrians Wall is a 10min walk and breathtaking and full of history.

Take note it is best to take some cash with you as there is no ATM for miles around and the bus service ends on Oct 1st. I hope to return here soon in the Summer as the marshy ground can get boggy!

Next door is a working museum for kids, a cafe, a souvenir shop and a roof top walk for great views.

LOVED IT AND RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

Interesting exhibition about landscape. Delicious cakes and scones in the cafe. New building sensitive to the environment. Bring pound coins for the car park. Free entry.

Interesting building, nicely set in the landscape. The cafe is good with tasty well presented food and fantastic views over the hills all around. I liked the concept of the exhibition and it was well put together but I would like more depth. I saw that there is still more space to develop. Its early days and hopefully they will continue add to what is there. Could easily be a 5* place if well managed.

Being a local we decided to pay a visit. Cafe food was tasty and service prompt despite being busy. Adore the open aspect and roof top terrace walk. Only request is that exhibition downstairs needs to cater for a wider audience. Would definitely take visitors there. Staff very friendly and helpful.
