Trails Featuring Sopa: 5 days
Overview
The Maasai Mara offers the most sought after wildlife experience on earth. It is also home to the Massai people, a Kenyan tribe who have retained their traditional heritage and beliefs. You will also visit Lake Naivasha, the beautiful home to hippos and birds galore. This trip features many of the places of Joseph Thompson’s famous journey through Maasai Land.
Day 1: Depart from Nairobi for a journey south along the floor of the Great Rift Valley, passing through small Maasai town centers and wheat plantations. Climb the western wall entering "Hemingway’s Country” (The Serengeti Plains). Arrive at Maasai Mara Game Reserve in time for lunch.
Sopa Lodge
Located on the slopes of Oloongams Hills, the rooms are spacious, and there is a large, luxurious swimming pool. Guests are drawn to this lodge built in an ethnic design, surrounded by a scenic landscape and a rich variety of wildlife.
Day 2: Maasai Mara
After breakfast depart for a full day game viewing with packed lunch, across the rich trees, studded grassland and rolling hills. The famous Mara is renowned for its great herds of game, such as the black manned lion, leopard and cheetah. It also has numerous elephants and nearly all types of Kenyan wildlife can be found here . Dinner and overnight at Sopa Lodge.
Day 3: Half day game drive, and then return to your accommodation for lunch. In the afternoon you have a chance of doing a walking Safari with the local Maasai warriors and to pay a visit to their village at an added cost.
Day 4: Pre-breakfast game viewing then head to Naivasha arriving late afternoon. Dinner at Sopa Lodge.
Day 5: After breakfast explore Lake Naivasha on a one hour boat ride (extra cost), then head to Hell’s Gate National Park for a short game drive and walk down the gorge. Return to Nairobi late afternoon.
